SSL (Secure Sockets Layer)

SSL (Secure Sockets Layer) is a cryptographic protocol designed to provide secure communication over a computer network, primarily the internet. By encrypting data transmitted between a web browser and a server, SSL ensures that sensitive information, such as personal details and payment data, remains confidential and protected from eavesdropping or tampering. SSL uses encryption algorithms to secure data and verify the authenticity of the web server, creating a secure “handshake” between the server and the client. This process helps prevent unauthorized access and data breaches, offering users a safe browsing experience. Despite being succeeded by TLS (Transport Layer Security), SSL remains a widely recognized standard for securing online transactions and communications.
