Bleed

Bleed refers to the additional space or margin beyond the edges of a printed document. This extra area ensures that when the document is trimmed to its final size, any images, colors, or background elements that extend to the edge will do so without leaving a white border. Designers use bleed to avoid unwanted margins or gaps in printed materials, especially in items like brochures, flyers, or business cards where edge-to-edge printing is desired. Typically, bleed is set at 3mm or 1/8 inch around all sides of the document to accommodate the trimming process.
