Energy efficiency mobile app
The client needed to solve a range of problems related to the collection, management, analysis, and reporting of energy-related information.
The solution needed to be developed not just for consumers and realtors but for leading utilities as well to manage large scale energy efficiency programs. The solution also required to have robust backend integrations with utility providers through widely deployed new-age mobile-based technologies. For this, it needed to have some engagement methods to implement the most comprehensive systems for the best of results.
Another factor was the UX should be such that it could guide the user to the relevant sections and sub-sections of the application without any hassle. Not just this, but the UX designing had to include the integration with branding and usability. Implementation of local utility providers’ APIs to integrate various offers also took up much of the research and development.
The developed solutions have two
separate platforms for consumer and
realtors. Consumer app, makes them
understand the energy consumption
level at their homes. The consumer
goes through a survey.
The developed solution comprises of two separate but integrated platforms for consumers and realtors. Both of these apps were implemented for iOS and Android platforms using the respective native app development framework.
Consumers’ app was developed for making themselves aware of the levels of energy consumption at their homes. We provided an interface through which the consumer fills up a survey to create a ‘Digital Mockup’ of the property and receives a free ‘Energy Assessment Report’. This report includes a list of recommendations for achieving greater energy efficiency such as using power-efficient star certified bulbs, the addition of attic insulation, proper sealing of the homes, and other energy-saving initiatives. Each proposal is followed by the field containing the statistics of the saved costs and applicable rebates from utility providers.
The Realtors’ app was given the shape of a real-estate lead-generation engine, which would automatically analyze the data provided by homeowners to generate a list of real estate leads containing valuable insights about the property. The client provided the wholesome energy consumption details of various appliances of all popular brands as per the Public Utility Regulatory Policies Act of the USA. It would also leverage the power of social media marketing, thus helping realtors grow their prospect base. Automatic lead generation is the USP of this app.
The solution implemented by Taazaa helps consumers in conducting an in-depth and thorough review of the home’s current energy usage, along with a step-by-step plan for decreasing power-bills. At the very beginning, a bare-bone solution was put forward for conceptualizing the proof-of-concept, and on subsequent discussions with the client, it was provided with more functionalities with each of the version releases.
Taazaa’s solution also helps to find out the rebates offered by utility providers and thus additionally helps in decrementing carbon footprints on the environment. The realtor version of the app includes few additional features like automatic lead-generation, social-media marketing, contact management, lead conversion, white-label reports, and payment processing.
To make the analysis process agile, we created native Android and iOS applications. As the client has its own managed hosting service working over the backend Microsoft’s .NET platform for all server needs, cloud integration was not needed.
App also contained a survey where users were given a form to be filled through a Web Audit Tool — so that they can fill it right from their smartphones. The client was much concerned about the privacy issues, that might trouble the business in the future, so robust cryptographic algorithm AES128 was deployed for all communications emancipating to-and-fro the server, users, and realtors. Still, the ‘connection’ between realtors and users emancipates is made through the central server of the client.
This solution helped in avoiding functionality duplication along with the prospects of developing and releasing each of the parts independently as well.
