EHR and EMR (Electronic Health Record and Electronic Medical Record)

Electronic Health Records (EHR) and Electronic Medical Records (EMR) are digital versions of patients’ paper charts and comprehensive medical history. EMRs are a digital counterpart to traditional paper records, containing medical and treatment histories from a single healthcare provider. EHRs, however, are more comprehensive, encompassing a broader view of a patient’s health and can be shared across different healthcare settings. EHRs facilitate better coordination of care by allowing authorized providers to access a patient’s health information in real time. They include data such as patient demographics, medical history, medication, treatment plans, immunization dates, and laboratory test results, thereby enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of patient care.
